What Is HIV ?

HIV ( Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that causes AIDS. This virus is passed from one person to another through blood, using shared needles and sexual contact. In addition, infected pregnant women can pass HIV to their baby during pregnancy or delivery, as well as through breast-feeding. People with HIV have what is called HIV infection. Most of these people develop AIDS as a result of HIV infection.






What is AIDS ?

AIDS ( Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is caused by HIV which attacks the body's immune system. It is a chronic, life threatening condition. When HIV is not treated can lead to AIDS.


Where did HIV come from ?

HIV infection in human was believed to have originated from non human primates in Central and West Africa.

The earliest known case of HIV was from a man in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The genetic analysis of the blood sample collected in 1959, suggests that HIV-1 may have stemmed from a single virus in the late 1940s or early 1950s.


What usually the first sign of HIV ?

Warning signs of infection with HIV:

. Rapid weight loss

. Dry cough

. Recurring fever or profuse night sweats

. Profound and unexplained fatigue

. Diarrhoea that lasts for more than a week

. Pneumonia
