Hi, everybody.
I am Dr. M. Satyanarayana, a HIV physician from Hyderabad.
Every year on December 1st, we commemorate the World AIDS Day. We are celebrating 37th World AIDS Day this year. This is the first ever international day for the global health.
People around the world including united nations agency UNAIDS, WHO, different civil societies and governments, join together to campaign the specific theme of that particular year.
This year the theme is Take Right Path. The theme helps to raise the awareness about the importance of prevention, treatment and fight against the stigma, discrimination.
Today, we unite and show the solidarity and support for 4 crore people living with HIV and remember those 4.3 crore people who lost their lives from AIDS related illnesses since the beginning of the epidemic.
Today, even though it is a chronic manageable disease like diabetes and hypertension and despite significant progress in the treatment and prevention is achieved, still it continues to affect millions of people worldwide, with many still facing barriers to health care facilities like testing, treatment and support.
Today we perform awareness and fund raising programmes and events to highlight the current state of the epidemic. On World AIDS Day, we let the people living with HIV to come forward and make their voice heard on the issues important in their lives.
World AIDS Day serves as a powerful reminder to letting us know the importance of continued global cooperation, research and action to end the HIV epidemic. It is an opportunity for individuals and communities to unite, reaffirm their commitment to end the disease.
